A captivating and affecting if slightly rushed feeling crime film, featuring a pair of excellent performances from Fonda and the angel-faced Sidney, Lang’s bleak examination of the criminal justice system – You Only Live Once – follows a recently released ex-con and his new bride’s (seemingly futile) attempts to live a normal life.
