This cracking Hitcockian thriller, an adaptation of McEwan’s acclaimed novel, depicting the psychological aftermath of a tragic accident, is – with Sams’s excellent Hermannesque score, Zambarloukos’s striking photography, and some brave, visceral performances – an unnerving and thoroughly compelling experience.
